They stay up late into the night and rise at the crack of dawn, capitalizing on their children’s sleep schedules. They regularly chat in netspeak and refer to their offspring in such shorthand posts as DS (Darling Son) and DD (Darling Daughter). They’re exceptional moms who blog, and they’re taking the Internet by storm.

I am a blogger ... a single father with two severely disabled children. My 18 year old daughter lives with me.

"What I gain from the experience" ... different things. This blog post happens to hit on it, and I stay anonymous because of item 3 ... http://www.disableddaughter.com/?p=725

Also the great feedback I get from other parents because there are so few of us with truly severely disabled kids that share the real day to day stuff.

This came in last night, I do not know how she found my blog exactly, somehow through you ... but it shows why I blog:

---------------------
I have been searching for years to find others "like me" and who I could relate to and who would understand what my husband and I are going through on a daily basis. I happened upon your blog for the first time tonight thanks to the most recent edition of the magazine "Exceptional Family" which indirectly led me here. I feel like a door has just been opened in my little crazy world.

I get this (and many of your other posts so far). I totally and completely, with every fiber of my being, get this.

"We" thank you.
----------------------------

Makes it worthwhile.

I am a blogger. I have a daughter who is severely physically and cognitively disabled from a stroke at age 6. I started blogging because there was virtually nothing out there about the lives of SEVERELY disabled kids and their parents. As a result of blogging, I have connected with other parents/caregivers who "get it". I have helped people, and people have really helped me. It's marvellous. It has completely changed my life.
